The Zoning Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals are headed by Trustee Craig Horner. The Westfield Township Zoning Commission consists of five residents appointed by the trustees to a five year term. Their responsibilities are to review and recommend updates to the township Comprehensive Plan. Also to make recommendations of zoning changes, hear recommendations from the trustees or residents application for a zoning change. (Article X) Once the committee receives a proposal, whether it is a district or a text change it is forwarded to the Medina County Department of Planning Services for their recommendations. After receiving their recommendations the Zoning Commission will hold a public hearing of which a notice will be in a local publication at least ten days prior. The proposed changes are discussed and voted on by the commission and forwarded to the Trustees. They too must have a public hearing with a ten day prior notice. If the proposed change is approved it goes into effect in 30 days. For more detailed specifications of a zoning change read Ohio Revised Code 519.12.
The Zoning Commission will also review site plans as specified in Article VIII. Sec.807 of the Westfield Township Zoning Resolution.
Zoning Board of Appeals
The Westfield Township Board of Zoning Appeals consists of five residents appointed by the Trustees to five year terms. This board will hold public hearings for administrative appeals (Article IX Sec. 905), variance appeals (Article IX Sec.906) and conditional zoning certificates as described in (Article VI and Article VII Sec.807). These hearings will be called on an as needed bases with the required notification. For more detailed specifications of the appeals process read Ohio Revised Code 519.14.
